A Week in Kurunagala

Posted: August 11, 2009 in Uncategorized

Seven of us digging into a jar of Nutella at 8am. No spoons.

Me and a toddler yelling GUNGUNGAAGAA! in the middle of the hall, a ritual chant before cutting the ribbon cake.

Watching raindrops evaporate in the sun soon as they hit the concrete.

Ghost stories in the dark.

Finding a mysterious pair of female underwear on the rooftop and constantly asking the guy in the gang if they’re his.

Laughing so hard everything hurts and we forget why we started.

Getting caught doing the robot dance to a gay techno pop song.

Jumping from box to box on a tiled floor till you’re satisfied that your jump-speed has reached terminal velocity.
Blaming it on the sugar high.

Bicycle races.

Being woken up by hot sun streaming through the window or by the sound of people fighting for the PC game in the next room.

Lollipops and vadey.

Heated debate #1: Grown ups vs Kids.

Heated debate #2: Marriage vs Singledom.

Singledom and Kids winning every time to the exasperated sighs of aunties and uncles.

Having your head empty of all else but an indie song.

Deliciously icy cold nights.

Catching yourself singing avilla avilla sinhala avurudda avilla in the shower.

Home-made hamburgers.

Lying down on the rooftop to count sky clouds.
Falling asleep before you can finish.
